Jean-Luc Melenchon and Francois Fillon are closing ground on Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen, according to the latest polls.
Ipsos-Sopra Sterna, France undertook a first round poll in March 2017, at this point the following scores were recorded: Hamon 10%, Melenchon 15%, Fillon 17.5%, Macron 25% and Le Pen 25%
Ipsos-Sopra Sterna, France undertook another first round poll in April 2017, at this point the following scores were recorded: Hamon 7.5% (-2.5%), Fillon 19% (+1.5%), Melenchon 20% (+5%), Macron 22% (-3%) and Le Pen 22% (-3%)
Fillon, Melenchon, Macron and Le Pen are now very closely scored, the polls have them within 3%. The top two candidates will go through to the second round if no candidate receives 50%, which is now very unlikely.
French votes will vote on the 23rd April, taking into account undecided voters and margin for error and therefore it is impossible to say who will be going through to the second round.
