  • 2017 March 4 – In a series of tweets President Trump accuses President Barack Obama of “wiretapping” his offices in October 2016

  • 2017 March 5 – James R Clapper, former Director of National Intelligence denies claims that President Obama wiretapped President Trump’s 2016 presidential election campaign
  • 2017 March 13 – White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer gets asked during Press briefing about the tweets sent by President trump on March 4 about Obama “wiretapping him”, Spicer responds with “He said they were in quotes, I was referring to surveillance overall.  It’s something that had been referred to in other reports.” White House Press Briefing
  • 2017 March 15 – Representative Nunes reports that the House Intelligence Committee has not discovered any evidence supporting Trump’s wiretapping claim
  • 2017 March 16 – White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer repeats claims made by Andrew Napolitano that Britain’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) conducted espionage against Donald TrumpJames Comey Quote - I have no information that supports those tweets
  • 2017 March 17 – GCHQ denies all involvement in the alleged wiretapping of Trump. This prompts the Trump administration to issue a formal apology
  • 2017 March 20 – James Comey, FBI Director states during the House Intelligence Committee “with respect to the president’s tweets about alleged wiretapping directed at him by the prior administration, I have no information that supports those tweets and we have looked carefully inside the FBI. The Department of Justice has asked me to share with you that the answer is the same for the Department of Justice and all its components.   • 2017 March 21 – Representative Devin Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee holds a press conference and says “on numerous occasions the Intelligence Community incidentally collected information about U.S. citizens involved in the Trump transition.” The Atlantic – Devin Nunes
  • 2017 March 30 – The New York Times claims that a pair of White House officials provided the intelligence to Representative Devin Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, which Nunes then disclosed to Trump NY Times – Devin Nunes Revelations
  • 2017 September 01 – In a court filing on Friday the Department of Justice said “Both FBI and NSD [Department of Justice’s National Security Division] confirm that they have no records related to wiretaps as described by the March 4, 2017 tweets,” the DOJ wrote in a summary judgment court filing on Sept. 1. “FBI again confirmed that Case 1:17-cv-00718-RCL Document 12 Filed 09/01/17 Page 4 of 39 they do not have any such records by consulting with personnel knowledgeable about Director Comey’s statements and the surveillance activities of the FBI. ”
