President Trump issued an all-caps challenge to the Iranian President Rouhani late Sunday night, warning that any threats to the US would be met with “CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE.”
The tirade signaled an immediate escalation of tensions between Washington and Tehran.
At 2024 on July 22 2018, Trump tweeted:
“To Iranian President Rouhani: NEVER, EVER THREATEN THE UNITED STATES AGAIN OR YOU WILL SUFFER CONSEQUENCES THE LIKES OF WHICH FEW THROUGHOUT HISTORY HAVE EVER SUFFERED BEFORE. WE ARE NO LONGER A COUNTRY THAT WILL STAND FOR YOUR DEMENTED WORDS OF VIOLENCE & DEATH. BE CAUTIOUS!”
Trump’s tweet was in response to earlier remarks by Rouhani, where he said Americans,
“Must understand that war with Iran is the mother of all wars and peace with Iran is the mother of all peace”
Trump’s tweet is ironic considering his previous messages to his predecessor President Obama. On at least five separate occasions Trump has depicted war with Iran as something a president would do for domestic political gain.
