  • 2016 June 16 – Trump launches presidential campaign
  • 2016 July 15 – Announces Indiana governor Mike Pence as his vice presidential running mate
  • 2016 July 21 – Accepts the Republican nomination
  • 2016 August 9 – Says “if she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks. Although the Second Amendment people – Maybe there is, I don’t know”
  • 2016 August 23 – “Look. It is a disaster the way African-Americans are living…We’ll get rid of the crime…You’ll be able to walk down the street without getting shot.”
  • 2016 September 26 – First presidential general election debate is held in Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York (Hilary Clinton ends up taking majority support after the debate)
  • 2016 October 7 – Tapes are leaked by Access Hollywood showing Donald Trump and Billy Bush bragging about sexual exploits in 2005. In the video Trump says “I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it, you can do anything … grab them by the pussy” and about a failed attempt to seduce Nancy O’Dell “I moved on her, and I failed. I’ll admit it, I did try and fuck her. She was married”
  • 2016 October 9 – Second presidential general election debate is held in university of Nevada, Las Vegas, Nevada (Hilary Clinton ends up very narrowly winning the debate)
  • 2016 October 19 – Third presidential general election debate is held in Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri (Hilary Clinton ends up narrowly winning the debate)
  • 2016 October 28 – James Comey announces that the FBI will be investigating newly discovered emails in relation to its previous investigation of emails sent from Hillary Clinton’s private server
  • 2016 November 6 – James Comey tells Congress there is no evidence that Hillary Clinton should face charges over handling of classified information
  • 2016 November 8 – US Election Day
  • 2016 November 9 – Donald Trump is the projected winner of the election
  • 2016 December 19 – The electors of the Electoral College meet and formally cote for the President and Vice President , selecting Donald Trump and Mike Pence. Trump receives 304 electoral votes and Clinton receives 227 electoral votes
  • 2017 January 6 – Electoral votes formally counted before a joint session of Congress; the President of the Senate formally announces the electoral result.
  • 2017 January 20 – Inauguration of the 45th president Donald Trump and takes the Oath of Office
